The department is providing cost free educational facilities from toddler schools upto higher secondary level. The special facet of public schooling lies in its services to the children of the destitute classes who normally cannot afford the educational expenses levied by private schools.

The department is fighting against illiteracy tooth and nail. As a consequence of which it is safely predicted that none of school going age children in the district are out of school. According to PSLM (Economic Survey of Pakistan 2005-06) Chakwal has the highest enrolment at elementary level in Punjab. A look into educational scenario of public schools will bear evidence to the fact that almost all the institutions specially high and higher secondary schools have been equipped with enviable facilities to impart quality education rightly at par with elite class private schools. In addition to Science Laboratories, Libraries, Resource Rooms, Child Care Centers, Play Fields, Clean Drinking Water, Toilet Blocks, Play Grounds and Activity Rooms, a feather in the cap is the establishment of state of the art I.T Labs. These I.T Labs have latest computers, printers, Air Conditioners and UPS alongwith round the clock free Internet access which has ushered in a new era of digital revolution.
The students are provided free text books in the beginning of the academic year and financial assistance out of school funds is also provided to the needy for purchase of uniform and stationary.
